Sir Winston Churchillís Great-Grandson in
Houston To Honor Andrea White!
Literacy Advance of Houston presents Champions of Literacy Series event.
(Houston, TX) – Literacy Advance of Houston is pleased to bring Sir Winston Churchill’s great-grandson, Jonathan Sandys, to
Houston to share in the Champions of Literacy Series event honoring Mrs. Andrea White. An Evening with Andrea White will be
held on Thursday, May 15, 2008 at 6:30 p.m. at the Houston Museum of Natural Science.
Literacy Advance proudly partnered with the British Consul General to arrange for Mr. Sandys' participation in honoring Mrs.
White, the next recipient of the Champions of Literacy award and praised author of Window Boy. Window Boy is a young adult novel that tells an inspiring story of a physically challenged ten-year old boy, Sam, and his friendly advisor, Winston “Winnie”
Churchill, whose story is brought to life everyday when Sam’s British caretaker reads to him.
In recognition of Sir Winston’s role in the novel and sharing in his great-grandfather’s love of writing, Mr. Sandys eagerly
agreed to be a part of the evening’s program. To learn more about this great-grandson of one of history’s most famous figures,

The Champions of Literacy Series is a multi-annual fundraising and public awareness series that seeks to promote literacy by
acknowledging those who have made a difference in the community. The May event will consist of the fourth annual “What’s Your Favorite Book?” silent auction, hors d’oeuvres, presentation, book signing and cash bar.
Literacy Advance is grateful to have Mrs. White and Mr. Sandys join in their efforts to help Houston adults learn to read and
write. Mrs. White has been granted the Champions of Literacy Award for her dynamic role as a community leader, volunteer,
education activist and author.
“For more than forty years, Literacy Advance of Houston has taught many Houston-area adults to read; thus, helping them to
achieve their goals and expand their lives,” says Mrs. White, Houston’s First Lady. “As the joy of reading enriches my life
every day, I am honored to receive the Champions of Literacy Award.”
